Planning commission forwards bylaws changes to council, schedules ADU discussion for May

The Sunset Planning Commission voted April 9 to forward revisions to its bylaws to the City Council for approval and discussed administrative updates including commissioner training and several planning items.
Members reviewed bylaw edits (meeting day/time and formatting cleanups) and agreed the changes must go to City Council. Committee member S2 moved to send the bylaws changes to the council, Commissioner Whitney seconded the motion, and the meeting record shows the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners also discussed required training hours and asked members to document completed sessions with staff. City staff reported a pending purchaser for the Sunset Square parcels and that no formal plans had yet been submitted. Finally, commissioners reviewed state guidance that will require the city to create a pathway for detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on quarter-acre lots and agreed to place the ADU topic on the May agenda.
The bylaw referral and the decision to schedule ADU discussion are procedural steps; the Council will take the final action on bylaws, and the commission will return with more substantive ADU details at its May meeting.
