New Main Street coordinator outlines boundary review and focus on Historic Overlay Zone

Mount Pleasant’s Community Development & Renewal Agency on March 10 introduced Heidi Kelso as the city’s newly appointed Main Street Coordinator. Kelso told the board she will work directly with local business owners, particularly those located within the city’s defined Main Street Program boundary, to implement grant-funded projects and downtown improvements.
Kelso described the current boundary as covering Main Street and extending around the library area to include the Wasatch Academy Gym and the 180 Fitness building, and said it encompasses much of the Wasatch Academy campus. She said she and Executive Director Monte Bona plan to review the mapped boundary and consider updates as part of the program’s next steps.
Kelso reported that Janiel Sego is serving as chair of the Main Street Committee and said she and Sego will attend an upcoming Utah Main Street Program workshop in Springville to observe local practices, including how Springville integrates public art with Main Street activities. Kelso identified the Historic Overlay Zone as one of the committee’s early priorities while implementing grant-funded work.
Monte Bona introduced Kelso to the board and said staff will collaborate with the coordinator on boundary review and committee activities. The board did not take any formal votes on boundary changes at the March 10 meeting; Kelso’s remarks were presented as an informational report and description of next steps for staff and the Main Street Committee.
