Boerne recognizes electric and gas departments for safety and performance

The Boerne City Council opened its April 14 meeting by recognizing the city’s electric and gas departments for safety and operational excellence.
City staff announced the Electric Department received the 2025 American Public Power Association Safety Award of Excellence, earning a diamond designation with a score exceeding 90 points among more than 240 utilities. Staff singled out Crystal Barrera, utilities regulatory administrator, and Electric Superintendent Glenn Garcia for their roles.
Staff then recognized the Gas Department for receiving an "excellent" performance rating and a perfect 100% score in the Texas Municipal League intergovernmental risk pool assessment conducted in February 2026. Staff recognized Gas Superintendent Michael Sharp and Gas Service Worker Brian Russell for their contributions to achieving the perfect score.
Council members and staff took photos with the honored employees and thanked utilities personnel for their dedication to safe operations.
