The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on March 12 adopted Ordinance No. 25-03-02, changing the zoning designation of a parcel in the Village of Shaftsburg (Woodhull Township) from A-2 Agricultural Production/Rural Residential to R-M1 Multiple-Family.
Commissioner Howard moved to adopt the ordinance, and Commissioner Holzhausen seconded the motion. The board recorded the ordinance and related findings in the meeting minutes; the Planning Commission had held a public hearing February 26, 2025 and recommended approval of petition PREZ24-002 filed by Shaftsburg Hotel, LLC.
The ordinance text in the record identifies the affected property as Village of Shaftsburg, Woodhull Township, Block 5, Lot 1 and the north half of Lot 2 and states that the change amends the county’s official zoning map (Article 2, Section 2.1.2) in accordance with the county’s Zoning Ordinance procedures and Public Act 110 of 2006. The ordinance was certified in the minutes and signed by Board Chair Gregory Brodeur and Clerk Caroline D. Wilson.
Why it matters: rezoning from A-2 to R-M1 changes allowable uses and density for the property, potentially allowing multi-family residential development where agricultural or rural residential uses had been the default. The Planning Commission’s recommendation and the record indicate the change followed the county’s public-notice procedures.
Next steps: the ordinance is recorded in the county minutes and the clerk’s certification appears in the meeting record; any required post-adoption publication or appeals would follow the procedures in the county zoning ordinance and state law.
