Taylor, an applicant for the position, told the board she brings long family roots in the district and experience leading a nonprofit board that managed a multimillion-dollar budget. "I've been a member of the community for a very long time," she said, noting several generations of her family have attended the district and that she wants "to help plan for the continued success for the future generations." Board members asked about time commitment and practical experience; Taylor said she expected the role would require several hours a month beyond regular board meetings.
Chris Clark, the other finalist, described years of volunteer service with CASA, Meals on Wheels and local hospital programs and cited prior classroom experience and a background in professional liability insurance. "I'm here to serve. I'm here to listen, and I'm here to learn to support our community and our staff," Clark said. Clark also told the board he believed the district bond should be supported and characterized it as low cost to taxpayers, saying from a taxpayer standpoint "it makes absolutely no sense to vote against it because it really doesn't cost anybody a dime."
After brief deliberations, the board conducted a written ballot. With one member participating remotely, the board reported a unanimous tally of four votes in favor of Taylor and moved to record the appointment. The board did not state a formal motion or name a mover/second on the record; the result was announced aloud by the chair: "So we've got 4 in favor of Patty Taylor." The board then transitioned to its scheduled regular session at 7:00 p.m.
Taylor will serve the remainder of the interim term described during the interview; during the meeting one applicant referenced that the seat carries an 18-month term. The board provided no additional details at the work session about next steps for orientation or a formal swearing-in.
