Erie County officials on April 1 moved forward with preliminary steps toward a feasibility study on regionalizing water and sewer services and approved a slate of routine contracts and personnel actions during a 20-minute regular meeting at the Services Center.
County Administrator Hank Solowiej said a second discussion had taken place this week about regionalizing water and sewer services and that the county will issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit professional engineering firms; a legal notice for the RFQ was provided to the Board for review.
County Engineer Eric Dodrill briefed the commissioners on local capital projects, thanking the Board for advancing the Sanford Drainage Ditch Improvement Project and the Campbell Street/Strub Road roundabout. Dodrill said the Ohio Department of Transportation has begun work at the Sanford Ditch site, including tree and dirt removal.
On motions moved by Commissioner Shoffner and seconded by Commissioner Old, the Board approved meeting minutes from March 26 and March 30, 2026, and adopted several resolutions as consent items with Roll Call recorded as "All Aye." Those actions included entering a Technical Support Program Proposal with Total ID Solutions, Inc. (#26-84) for $2,672 to support the CCW ID system at the jail and a contract with Martin Painting and Coating, Co. (#26-85) for an Adult Probation roof repaint and seal project for $8,200. The Board also adopted surplus declarations (#26-86, #26-87) and executed a Then and Now payment certification under O.R.C. 5705.41(d)1 (#26-88).
The Board approved travel requests including Kevin Cannon of Regional Planning to attend a Walk, Bike, Ohio stakeholder workshop in Bowling Green at no cost and Angela Ward of the prosecutor’s office to attend a two-day victim assistance training in Columbus with estimated costs of $281. Personnel actions approved included Terrvonis Valliant’s change in role to STNA effective March 27, 2026, and Lisa Flood’s transfer to Eligibility Specialist 3 effective April 20, 2026; the Board also approved a recruitment request for a Clerical Specialist-OMJ position.
During public comment, resident Rick Scheel asked the commissioners to spearhead a spring cleanup for county roads and open fields, citing an accumulation of plastic and other trash. The commissioners said they would be willing to designate a day for residents to dispose of collected trash at the landfill free of charge if Scheel could coordinate a group effort; Scheel declined to coordinate. The meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
