Public commenter urges stronger suicide-prevention supports and recognition of domestic-violence awareness month

During public comment, Jamie Sanchez urged the board to strengthen suicide-prevention supports across district schools and to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
"If we are serious about suicide prevention, the district must step up to ensure that all schools have trained staff, counselors and mental health support readily available," Sanchez told trustees, and asked why there was no immediate replacement for a resource officer who is on light duty.
Superintendent Dr. Youssef responded that staff had reached out to speakers after the previous board meeting and noted the district posts resources on its website and has contacted the speakers to follow up on counseling and mental-health needs.
Trustees and principals who spoke during board communications stressed the need to refresh and publicize district mental-health resources and to provide culturally appropriate materials for immigrant families. No formal board action occurred during public comment; trustees asked staff to follow up with resources and outreach.
