Simi Valley Unified presents district assessment gains, rising AP participation and steady enrollment

"If you were watching the news, the national NAEP results were released today. Unfortunately, it's not looking good for our country overall. Block highlighted pockets of strong growth by grade and school and said secondary grades showed gains in English and math overall; he called out Royal and Santa Susana High Schools for increased AP participation and higher pass rates on AP exams. When a trustee asked what "passing" meant for AP, Block said a score of 3 or higher was used as the benchmark.
Superintendent Dr. Youssef reported enrollment figures: "We have exactly enrolled in our school district... 15,055 students," and said TK enrollment was 630 (capacity 649), leaving 19 TK seats available. He also encouraged families to attend the district college fair at Royal High School on Tuesday evening.
Trustees asked for comparative baseline slides to show how Simi Valley Unified compares with similar districts and the state. District staff offered to provide additional comparison data and dashboard context when statewide figures are publicly available.
The presentation was informational and trustees did not vote on assessment policy changes at this meeting.
