The Greenville City Council held first readings on two pieces of legislation and handled routine business.
Law director briefing: the law director summarized two items for first reading only: (1) a resolution authorizing the safety service director to solicit bids for water-main replacement work on Green Street, Arc Avenue, Marion Drive and Chippewa Drive, and (2) a resolution to accept the material terms of the Ohio opioid settlement with Purdue and to authorize the city solicitor or safety service director to execute related agreements. The law director cautioned that the city does not yet know how much the settlement will yield for Greenville because amounts depend on aggregation of nationwide settlements.
Votes and motions: the council approved the meeting agenda and later passed a motion to excuse absences for August (roll-call affirmative votes recorded during the meeting). The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn.
None of the legislation for the water-main project or the opioid settlement was adopted tonight; both were limited to first reading because council opted not to suspend rules given public attendance.
