Ferron City approves youth donations, schedules Senior Service Project and discusses Peach Days plans

Ferron — At its March 11 meeting the Ferron City Council approved donations and discussed several community events and youth activities.
Council approved an $800 donation to support four young women attending Girls State after Gina Swasey introduced the candidates. Student Hadley Meccariello described Girls State as a five‑day program where “the model this year is government isn't just taught, it's lived,” and noted participants can earn three college credits. Councilmember Mike Behling moved to donate $800 in total; Gerry Stotler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council also approved a $500 donation to the Emery High School Class of 2026 graduation party after Izzy Turner, representing Laycee Winn, described the planned safe post‑graduation activities (games, raffles and supervised events); Ray Petersen moved and Vance Brown seconded the motion, which passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Councilmember Kellee Singleton outlined plans to condense Peach Days into Thursday–Saturday events, combine the dessert contest with dinner, hold the bike ride before dinner to draw attendees back to the park, and recruit volunteers for multiple tasks; she said the new Ferron City Agricultural and Event Center could expand possible activities. The council also accepted a Senior Service Project request: on May 4 the senior class will split into two groups to spend roughly 45–60 minutes each cleaning and preparing the Ferron City Cemetery for Memorial Day.
Council did not set specific fundraising follow-ups or conditions on the donations at the meeting.
