Board moves forward with Ventura High solar plan; staff to gather student feedback

Ventura Unified staff on Sept. 10 presented a revised solar plan for Ventura High School and the board agreed to gather targeted student feedback before any final decision.
Staff described "Option 2" as the consolidated plan staff wants to share with students and proposed using the Ventura High student senate plus four freshman-senior focus groups to provide qualitatively and quantitatively informed feedback. Frank, who helped develop the plan with the principal and other staff, said the outreach will include a short presentation, mockup images of the senior-lawn placement, and a QR-code survey; staff estimated the focus-group and survey work could be completed within two to three weeks.
Staff repeated that certain preferred ground-array locations, such as the student parking lot below the stadium, are constrained by earthquake/fault-study requirements and therefore were not feasible without additional geotechnical work.
"We envision using an existing mechanism — the VHS student senate — and then four focus groups to gather informed feedback," Frank said. He added staff would explain trade-offs, panel quantities needed for efficiency and campus impacts during the sessions.
Board members expressed general support for proceeding with the student engagement process and asked staff to make resulting feedback available to the public.
