District staff presented a draft "Profile of a Graduate" that district leaders and community members developed to clarify the competencies students should have at graduation and to guide K–12 instruction.
Allison (speaker 6) told the board the model grew out of community engagement—including business leaders, higher‑education partners and over 400 student responses gathered through student seminars—and multiple equity and action team reviews. She summarized the draft as four broad competency areas: "I'm a skilled creator; I'm a collaborator; I am a forward thinker; I am a difference maker." Those areas each include subcompetencies the district plans to tie to units of instruction and to student reflections and portfolios.
Allison said the district will introduce the framework to teachers in August through professional learning, seek to align it with CTE competencies and QIA Big Picture learning models, and gradually embed common language and assessments so students can demonstrate competence from kindergarten through high school. She emphasized local development over simply adopting statewide language: the district compared its draft to the state profile to ensure alignment but chose wording that reflects community expectations.
Board members asked about timing and grade‑level starts; Allison said staff aim to begin integrating the language "as soon as we possibly can," starting in kindergarten and with formal integration into the district's high school 'high school and beyond' planning. The board received the presentation and staff said they will present implementation steps and professional learning plans in coming meetings.
