Students showcase Waterford esports program and season highlights

At the start of the meeting, Mrs. Kutchy and coach Tony Miller presented the Waterford High School esports program, which competes on the PlayVerse platform as part of the Michigan high school esports league. Kettering and Mott teams were highlighted, and staff described how the district used technology bond funds to build an esports lab at Kettering with plans to add space at Mott.
Students summarized competitive highlights: teams competed in titles including Smash Bros., Marvel-related titles and others; several students qualified for playoffs and one student has been accepted to Ferris State’s esports program. Presenters emphasized benefits for student engagement, leadership and postsecondary opportunities. Trustees asked questions about games, match lengths and college pathways; the board congratulated the students and coaches.
