Summary
At its April 1 meeting, the Gunnison City Council approved Sanpete County emergency-services agreements and routine items including March 19 minutes and $52,793.30 in bills; staff also briefed the council on water-rights engineering, finances, a planned CDBG hearing, and public-works updates.
Gunnison City Council voted unanimously on April 1 to approve Sanpete County emergency-services agreements and to accept routine items on the consent side of the agenda, including the March 19 meeting minutes and bills totaling $52,793.30.
Councilor Kim Pickett moved to approve the Sanpete County emergency-services agreements and Councilor Donald Childs seconded; the council recorded unanimous support. Councilor Pickett also moved to approve the March 19 minutes (seconded by Councilor Stella Hill), and Councilor Donald Childs moved to approve the bills for the period ending March 27, 2026 (seconded by Councilor Pickett). All such motions passed by roll call vote.
Staff reports included a March statistics and update from GVPD Chief Jason Adamson; an engineering briefing on city water rights by Kelly Chappell; and a financial update from City Administrator Dennis Marker, who noted staff is preparing next year’s budget and reminded the council of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 15. Marker also said the council asked UDOT to powder-coat a pedestrian crossing pole to match downtown fixtures.
Public-works staffer JD Bunnell reported that irrigation water is turned on and that a recently drilled well is being logged with preliminary results “looking good.” Valerie Andersen, city recorder, outlined administrative updates including benefits-related outreach, employee biometrics testing by PEHP, attendance at a municipal clerk conference, and operational improvements for mailing and newsletter production.
On the agenda was a motion by Councilor Kim Pickett (seconded by Councilor Donald Childs) to go into a closed session to discuss the purchase, exchange, or lease of real property. The transcript records the motion and second but does not include a roll-call for that item or an explicit entry into closed session.
The council adjourned at 9:00 p.m.; the meeting minutes were later signed by Mayor Michael Wanner and attested by City Recorder Valerie Andersen with an approval date of April 15, 2026.
