Boone County School Board approves revised 2025–26 and 2026–27 calendars after debate

The Boone County School Board approved revised school calendars for 2025–26 and 2026–27 after a divided vote and a short debate about scheduling and staff workload.

Superintendent Dr. Hauswald recommended the revised calendars, saying the 2026–27 adjustments add makeup days to provide clarity should schools need to close for weather. "I would recommend approving the revised calendars as presented," Dr. Hauswald said.

A board member raised concerns about the revised calendars extending the school year into June and the impact on teacher and student exhaustion, urging the district to revisit how it handles snow days and NTI. "Personally, I'm not in favor of pushing us into June," the board member said, adding that the board should resolve calendar language before August.

After debate, the board approved the calendars on a 3–1 vote; the record shows one board member opposed.
