Glynn County commissioners on Thursday approved a fee program to manage a Veterans Memorial Park bench program and adopted updated bylaws and an amended memorial policy.
Lisa Gorganis, the countys recreation and parks director, said the program would set fees at dollar-for-dollar cost based on vendor pricing at time of purchase, rather than a fixed fee, and would begin in the next fiscal year. "At the time of purchase is when we would decide what that fee is based on actual cost from qualified vendors," Gorganis said, estimating current full cost (bench, plaque, installation) at about $4,000.
The proposed bylaws remove one memorial type previously contemplated and retain options for benches and potential future brick-pavers; commissioners approved both the fee program and updated resolution and bylaws unanimously. The board directed staff to implement the program, fund bench purchases in the new fiscal-year budget and recoup costs through the fee structure when benches are purchased.
What happens next: Staff will implement the bench program July 1 in the new budget year, begin by offering eight locations in Veterans Park and prepare guidance for purchasers and for any future memorial expansions.
