New Providence Police Department earns sixth reaccreditation, state assessor says

"The New Providence Police Department is a highly professional and committed agency," Delgado said, praising the department's leadership, resource management and preparedness. He told the council that roughly 1.8% of eligible New Jersey law‑enforcement agencies have reached the same level of repeated reaccreditation, and he presented a certificate recognizing the department's accomplishment.
The presentation credited Chief Daniel Lehi and the department's accreditation manager, Lieutenant Don Strathovic, for maintaining policies and practices that the assessment team said align with best practices for ethical and professional policing. Delgado said the accreditation process provides "objective evidence" of that commitment and noted that assessors found no major issues during the recent on‑site review.
Mayor Alan Morgan and council members thanked the officers for their work and accepted the certificate on behalf of the borough. The certificate presentation concluded the remarks; Delgado called the achievement "remarkable" and encouraged continued adherence to standards that support community trust and operational readiness.
The council did not take any legislative action tied to the presentation; the item was ceremonial and informational. Council members moved on afterward to proclamations and regular agenda business.
