The Brookings-Harbor SD 17C board opened its April 15 meeting with a series of student recognitions and calendar reminders.
Superintendent Didi and staff celebrated a National Honor Society induction of 13 new members; Didi described seniors "handing off the torch" to sophomores and noted staff and board members who presented pins and certificates. The board announced co-valedictorians Robert Krebs and Oceana Powersmith and salutatorian Eliza De Vera for the Class of 2026.
Board members and staff also introduced the Azalea Court for the 2026 festival (Summer Kessler, Oceana Howard Smith, Navara Ritters, Ashlyn Dietrich, Eliza de Vera and Sierra Stout) and covered a string of spring activities: prom at Salmon Run, a Rotary invitational track meet, a district-wide track meet on May 6 and student achievement night on May 14. One student speaker (Sahara) briefed the board on spring sports results and upcoming games.
The board confirmed key dates for the community: a regular meeting on May 20, the budget committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. on May 26 (and a possible second meeting on June 2), and graduation on May 30 at Azalea Park (with the final day of school on June 4). Members praised staff and volunteers involved with student programs and teacher appreciation plans.
The meeting then moved into other business and adjourned to executive session later in the evening.
