Ward 9 council member Frank Morris said he will work with the clerk to prepare an informal resolution asking Stark County to revisit recent property valuations that, he said, have jumped sharply in the city.
"I've looked at Perry Township, Plain Township, Jackson Township, and Lake Township. All the townships are looking anywhere from 10 to 20% increases. And in the city limits of Canton, we go as low as 40% and we are up to 125% increase," Morris said, adding that some seniors in his ward face $400–$800 more per year in property taxes after accounting for homestead discounts. Morris said he will prepare an informal resolution and send it to the county for review.
Morris asked the clerk to help draft the measure; the council did not vote on the resolution at the meeting. He said he planned to consult with the clerk and then forward the item to Stark County for reconsideration of valuations.
The figures Morris cited were presented as his assessment to the council; the transcript does not include a county response or any staff analysis explaining the valuation method or the specific parcels underlying his examples. The council noted the item for follow‑up and proceeded to other business.
