Summary
Student council and TSA advisers updated the board on prom, music events and extracurricular successes. The district’s BotIQ robotics teams placed highly in recent competitions, and a local alumni group proposed an annual 'Alumni Achievement Day' to highlight vocational accomplishments and connect graduates with current students.
Students and advisers used the meeting to showcase student activities and achievements and to propose new alumni programming.
Student council representative Cooper Grice told the board about prom plans, the Music in Our Schools event and athletic achievements including a new pole‑vault record of 9 feet. High‑school seniors and student musicians were recognized for awards and upcoming performances.
TSA adviser Andrew Valentine and student leaders described BotIQ, a 15‑pound combat‑robotics program run through the school’s Technology Student Association. The presentation reviewed required safety plans, technical documentation, industry tours and competition procedures. The program’s leading team, Tsunami, finished third in a recent tournament of about 68 teams; a first‑year team won two matches in its first competition. Valentine credited industry partners who machined critical parts and provided mentorship.
Rick Newton, representing the McGuffey Alumni Foundation and the Claysville Area Business Association, proposed an “Alumni Achievement Day” and banquet to honor vocational and community accomplishment. Newton recommended a seven‑member selection committee drawn from the district, the foundation and the business association, and suggested the program begin with nominations in advance of a 2027 awards cycle. The board sought clarification on logistics, funding and whether the district would need to approve use of space or any purchase of interactive displays; presenters said fundraising could cover displays if the district does not allocate funds.
The board indicated support to place the alumni program on a future agenda after administration and committee members refine logistics and any formal requests for space or budget.
