Austin Council votes at a glance: sewer lining contract, cannabis event fee, Paramount license, hazardous property and MnDOT agreement

At its meeting the Austin City Council approved multiple routine resolutions by voice or roll-call vote.

- Sanitary sewer lining: The council awarded the 2025 sanitary sewer-lining project to Municipal Pipe Tool, the low bidder at $651,441.95, with funding from the sanitary sewer fund. Staff identified the Wildwood Park and Sterling neighborhoods as the first areas for lining work.

- Cannabis event permit fee: The council approved a daily $100 fee for temporary cannabis event permits. Staff said the fee mirrors the existing community festival fee and is intended to offset administrative and enforcement costs; such events must be held on private property per the city ordinance.

- Paramount Theater liquor license: Council approved a theater liquor license for the Paramount Theater to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages during film screenings and events after the applicant submitted required documentation to the clerk’s office.

- Hazardous structure declaration: Council declared the building at 710th Street NE hazardous following staff reports that the tax-forfeited property has been stripped, left open and deteriorated; the city will secure the building and pursue removal as appropriate.

- MnDOT maintenance agreement: Council approved a biennial agreement with MnDOT to reimburse the city for routine maintenance on Trunk Highway 105; staff noted typical biennial increases (about 3.5% in recent cycles).
