Shiawassee County approves $10.18 million in payments, equipment purchases, appointments and grants

At its March 12 meeting the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners authorized $10,182,398.02 in bills and payroll, approved equipment and licensing purchases including tasers and Microsoft renewals, appointed two members to the Health and Wellness Board, and approved several grants and program expenditures.
The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on March 12 approved routine and programmatic actions including payment of county bills and payroll totaling $10,182,398.02, purchases of equipment and software, board appointments and multiple grants and program expenditures.
The board approved the payment and authorization of warrants for bills, wire transfers, ACH and EFTs and the payroll batches dated Feb. 14 and Feb. 28, 2025. The motion carried on a roll-call vote of six ayes and zero nays.
Other approved items included renewal of Microsoft licensing for email and cloud hosting not to exceed $54,282.50; purchase of tasers and supporting equipment not to exceed $50,068.20 with application for a 50% reimbursement grant; and purchase of a dump trailer for the Drain Department not to exceed $8,754 from the department’s equipment revolving fund. The board voted 6-0 on these items.
The board appointed Candyce Wolsfeld and Vicki Bocek to the Shiawassee Health and Wellness Board and authorized up to $40,000 from the Solid Waste Fund (Waste Management Fund 230) to fund two household hazardous waste collections in 2025. The Health Director was authorized to hire a summer public health intern at $18 per hour, not to exceed grant funding. The board also approved a $10,000 grant agreement with the Cook Foundation for Menstrual Health Services and authorized the chair to execute the contract.
Chairman Gregory Brodeur reported on his participation with a Cook Family Foundation group regarding recycling. County Administrator Dr. Boggs provided administrative updates, including that the county’s 2024 audit has begun, work with the Pleasant View Board on bonding for an expansion resolution, Land Bank Committee grant-application efforts and recent changes to the county 401 and 457 retirement plans. County Clerk Caroline D. Wilson announced a nine-day early-voting site mural contest, and Sarah Kopko of Lionbear Ventures thanked the board. The meeting adjourned at 5:43 p.m.
