Creek told the board he had followed district channels and received a response that the visitors had been cleared through the Raptor system and classified as volunteers; he highlighted a contradiction in the written volunteer policy (it states that volunteers must be 18 or older but also allows currently enrolled Suffolk students to volunteer under staff supervision) and requested the board close the perceived loophole.
Valerie Boykin, president of the NAACP Suffolk branch, urged the board to address visible dissension on the dais, questioned the reversal of the administration’s CFO selection and criticized the cost and necessity of a forensic audit. She also flagged past changes to DEI and transgender policies and urged the board to protect equitable supports for LGBTQ+ students and to prioritize students in policy decisions.
Other speakers praised student successes and urged unity. Chair McGee asked the superintendent to investigate the volunteer policy concern and report back to the board.
