Council OKs MnDOT permit for Trunk Highway 210 planters, agrees to 10-year maintenance

Fergus Falls city staff and council approved a MnDOT limited-use permit that allows the city to place planters on Trunk Highway 210 near the bridge as part of an interstate interchange beautification project.
City staffer Kyle Meyer said the beautification was requested as part of preliminary interstate work and that MnDOT’s permit requires the city to maintain the planters for 10 years. "MNDOT has an agreement for us that we have to maintain those planters for the next 10 years," Meyer said. Councilmembers moved and seconded the motion; the permit was approved by voice vote and placed on the consent agenda.
Staff noted the permit is linked to a larger MnDOT interchange project scheduled for next year, and the maintenance obligation will be the city’s continuing responsibility for the decade specified in the permit.
