Board approves two conditional use permits for detached accessory family dwellings

The Goochland County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two conditional use permits that will allow detached accessory family dwellings on private parcels after staff presentations and public hearings. Both applications were recommended for approval by the Planning Commission and included standard conditions limiting the units to family members, prohibiting separate rental, requiring emergency vehicle access and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and setting a 10‑year expiration.

Planning Director Jamie Sherry presented CU2500009 (Living Springs Lane) and CU2025‑10 (Hawktown Road). For both applications staff noted the conceptual plans are not imposed as conditions so final placement and building details will be reviewed during the building‑permit process. The Health Department’s review requires each accessory unit to have a separate well and septic where applicable; Sherry confirmed the applicants had addressed percolation/permitting steps for wells and septic.

No members of the public spoke against either application at the public hearings and the board voted to grant both CUPs subject to the presented conditions.
