Chief of Police Thomas Roman responded to those concerns, advising residents to "make sure they set their alarms when they leave their homes, lock all doors, remove keys from places like the garage, lock their car doors, and remove any valuables from their cars." He also noted that police-union negotiations have begun.
Mayor Paula McCombie and other trustees thanked residents for raising the issue and the board recessed and later reconvened before continuing its agenda. The resolution establishes Garrison as deputy chief; the minutes do not specify an effective date beyond the ratification vote.
The board moved later in the meeting into executive session to discuss litigation, personnel and collective bargaining, and returned to open session before adjourning.
