Lisa Odey, a retired educator with 35 years’ experience, told the South Charleston council she is running for the Connell County School Board, outlining a platform of transparency, teamwork and support for teachers and students.
Lisa Odey, a retired classroom teacher and reading specialist, introduced herself to the South Charleston City Council and said she is running for the Connell County School Board of Education.
"My name is Lisa Odey, and I'm running for Connell County School Board of Education," Odey told the council, saying the "most important" reason she is running is the future of students. She cited 35 years in education and said she worked in both general education and special education settings.
Odey outlined a three-part platform emphasizing "transparency" in decision‑making, "teamwork" among families, teachers and administrators, and stronger support for teachers so they have "everything that they need to do their jobs." She said she grew up in the eastern end of the valley and attended public schools there, and that she has both an undergraduate degree and a master's degree.
Odey said she has created a campaign website and social‑media pages and provided audience members with contact information. She told the council she is a candidate through the May 12 election.
The council thanked her for attending and invited questions from members of the public and councilors.
