Council adopts Climate Action plan and a package of infrastructure ordinances

The Canton City Council on March 9 adopted the Canton Climate Action and Sustainability Plan as an addition and amendment to the city's comprehensive plan and approved a package of ordinances covering vehicle and equipment purchases, contract amendments and change orders.
Councilmember (speaker 1) moved to adopt Ordinance 14, which the council approved as an emergency measure. The ordinance integrates the Climate Action and Sustainability Plan into the comprehensive plan for the city of Canton.
Council also approved Ordinance 15 to authorize advertising, bidding and contracting for sanitation packers and related vehicles and equipment; Ordinance 16 to enter a contract amendment with Michael Baker International Inc. not to exceed $90,000 for construction engineering on the Belton Avenue Northeast Bridge Rehabilitation Project; Ordinance 17 to enter a final change order not to exceed $30,350 for the Wayne Avenue sanitary sewer replacement project; Ordinance 18 to authorize a change order not to exceed $10,796.67 for Civic Center infrastructure improvements; and Ordinance 19 to authorize the mayor or director of public service to negotiate and acquire Parcel 237126 using fair-market value.
Clerk roll calls and voice votes recorded support for each measure. Where recorded at final vote the clerk reported 12 ayes and no nays; the meeting transcript shows each ordinance carried by the required council votes.
Council members also read and referred additional procurement and vehicle-related ordinances (numbers 9–13) to appropriate committees earlier in the evening; several of those were added to the agenda for consideration. The meeting closed with scheduling announcements for upcoming committee meetings and the regular adjournment.
The city clerk will publish adopted ordinances and the full ordinance text and any contract authorizations as required by municipal rules. No substantive debate on Ordinance 14 or the other adopted measures was recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
