Summary
The library director reported new partnerships, rising program participation and heavy use of the Libby platform (about 48% of checkouts), while noting the building will have fabric panels replaced in May and staff are implementing a reservation system.
The library director reported at the April 9 board meeting that programs and digital circulation are growing and operations are evolving as the library finishes its move and prepares facility repairs.
The director said the library received a quality library award, has launched reservation software and hosted its first paying event (an asphalt conference). The director highlighted digital circulation growth, noting that checkouts of library-owned books rose substantially and that "48% of all of our checkouts are Libby," creating budget pressure because the library does not have a dedicated Libby budget line and licensing costs can be high.
Staff also reported partnerships in development: a literacy foundation is expected to bring GED tutoring and services for English learners this fall, USU Extension will offer low-cost cooking classes, the teen advisory board is expanding leadership opportunities for youth, and the library received robotics equipment from a 4-H program with Space Dynamics volunteers providing instruction.
The director warned that the decorative fabric panels in the building have bubbling and that the manufacturer will replace most panels in May; the director said the library would limit bookings until repairs are complete to avoid operational problems.
Board members asked for and were reminded to provide contact information and term start dates for recertification and to complete required open-meetings training.
