The Ontario City Council took procedural votes to introduce two ordinances that would adopt the 2025 California Building Standards Code and related fire and technical codes with specified local amendments.
City staff explained the ordinances cover adoption by reference of multiple 2025 California codes (building, administrative, mechanical, electrical, residential, plumbing, energy, green building, historic building, and existing building codes) and the 2024 International Fire Code with local amendments to chapters across the municipal code. The city attorney advised the council that the government code requires separate procedural actions before setting the public hearing for the third related item, and asked the council to take the votes in sequence. The council voted to approve the introductions and to set the public hearing as required.
The action starts the formal ordinance process; detailed local amendments and any subsequent public hearing testimony will be addressed at the advertised hearing.
