Preston High boosters present $62,809.73 in sport-specific donations to county board

Mathias Lilly, treasurer of the Preston High Booster Club, told the Preston County Board of Education that the boosters are dissolving and presented $62,809.73 in restricted donations for individual sports at the high school.
“We would like to present checks for each sport… Total checks are $62,809.73,” Lilly said, then enumerating per-sport amounts and check numbers for baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer, wrestling and other teams.
Lilly described the boosters’ fundraising method — concession stands and parent volunteer hours — and said the club’s low volunteer turnout over recent years led the group to dissolve. Board members thanked Lilly and Jessica Lilly for the long-standing support the boosters provided to athletics.
Board members asked whether any organization or parents would replace the boosters’ role in concession operations and fundraising; Lilly said no replacement had yet surfaced. The board accepted the donation for restricted, sport-specific use and directed the high school administration to coordinate deposit and accounting.
What’s next: The checks were presented and accepted at the Sept. 8 meeting. The board will coordinate with school administrators to manage the restricted funds and noted the operational gap left by the dissolving boosters.
