Greeley County reorganizes for 2018, fills key posts and approves employee-pay policies

At its Jan. 9 meeting the Greeley County Board of Commissioners elected Michael Goldfish chair, named Doug Wrede vice chair, made multiple departmental appointments and approved a 3% pay increase and policy updates including mileage and burial allowances.
The Greeley County Board of Commissioners reorganized for 2018 at its Jan. 9 meeting, electing Michael Goldfish as chairman and naming Doug Wrede vice chairman. County Clerk Mindy Grossart presided as temporary chair while the board took nominations and voted by roll call.
The board approved routine business items, including waiving the reading of and approving the Dec. 26, 2017 minutes and certifying payroll and vendor claims. The claims docket included both general-fund and road-fund disbursements; the board approved those payments by roll call vote.
The board made several appointments to county posts for 2018. By roll call vote the panel appointed Christopher Hayes as county surveyor, Janet Wood as county school superintendent, Mark Bauer as emergency manager, Lance Harter as highway superintendent and Walter Bjorklund as weed superintendent. The board also approved appointing Franz Trumler as planning and zoning administrator and authorized a $25 monthly phone reimbursement for that position.
On personnel policies the board approved a 3% increase for listed salary and hourly employees and set deputy pay at 75% of the elected official’s salary (as shown in a Dec. 26, 2017 resolution). The board adopted a mileage reimbursement of 54.5¢ per mile under Section 81-1176 effective Jan. 1, 2018, noting the sheriff may add 3¢ for service of process. The board also adopted a county burial allowance of $1,500 for a casket burial or $1,000 for cremation and directed that any other resources (savings, insurance, Social Security funeral benefits) be applied against the county allowance.
Finally, the board designated the Greeley Citizen as the official county newspaper for 2018, declared www.greeleycounty.ne.gov an official means of publication and set the county board’s regular meetings for the second and last Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.
