The Selma City Business Improvement District voted to spend up to $500 to develop a dedicated Downtown Selma website intended as a business and events hub.
Staff said the site (proposed domain downtownselma.com) would host event listings, a merchant directory and commercial-space highlights absent from the city’s current municipal webpage. The initial build, staff said, should cost less than $500 for a simple landing page; more time would be needed to compile a full merchant directory.
Board members suggested optional advertising or paid spotlight placements for businesses to offset ongoing costs. "We could definitely put ad space on the home page for a business that wants to pay a little bit extra," one board member said.
The motion to authorize up to $500 for website setup passed by voice vote; staff said they expect to launch a simple site by summer and will return with updates on merchant-directory development.
Next steps: staff to register domain, build the landing page within the approved amount and begin outreach to populate a merchant directory.
