Council reviews state planning grant, zoning map work and CDBG annexation progress

Chair (S2) said the town received a state planning grant to have a contractor review zoning and maps and that work is underway. S2 described that historically much of the town was designated agricultural/residential with a small commercial/industrial area near Don Church (property owned by Kevin Bailing) and that several recently annexed areas had not been formally zoned.
“We annexed in Wells, Southtown... I don't think we ever did assign it to a zone,” Chair (S2) said, asking council members for input on how to designate the newer parcels.
On CDBG and annexation, Chair (S2) said the town is in preapproval, has a checklist of items to complete, and expects to travel to Salt Lake for a second meeting related to the grant. S1 said the town had an order of about $173,000 that was later modified by roughly $1,300, and councilors discussed submitting annexation paperwork to the lieutenant governor's office as the next administrative step.
Councilors noted that zoning assignment and the annexation process will require additional administrative steps and that public notice rules may apply as the town moves paperwork through state channels.
