Summary
Oak Creek’s Plan Commission approved a variance allowing a 94‑inch temporary ground sign for the Oak Creek Farmers Market at 361 West Town Square Way to be displayed from mid‑April through Oct. 25, 2026, subject to three conditions including setback and permit duration.
The Oak Creek Plan Commission on April 14 approved a variance letting the Oak Creek Farmers Market display a 94‑inch temporary ground sign at 361 West Town Square Way for the 2026 market season.
Planning staff told commissioners the market is seeking relief from two sections of the sign code: the duration limit for temporary displays (the code allows a maximum of 44 consecutive days) and the maximum height for a temporary sign (6 feet). Staff said the applicant requested a 7 foot, 10 inch sign to be displayed for the market season—mid‑April through Oct., a total of 192 consecutive days—and that it is the same sign used for the last three years.
"Their request is for the sign to be 7 feet 10 inches tall and to display from mid April through October, so a maximum of 192 consecutive days," Planning staff said during the presentation.
Commissioners raised no substantive objections to the request. After an initial motion, commissioners withdrew that motion to incorporate three conditions staff had put in the packet. The commission then approved a motion to grant the variance with conditions that include specific dimensions and placement, a minimum 10‑foot setback from property lines, and permit validity through Oct. 25, 2026 with removal by Oct. 28, 2026.
The motion passed on roll call. The commission’s approval directs the applicant to meet the stated conditions before the temporary sign permit is finalized.
The plan commission did not take up permanent or digital signage at the meeting; the chair noted digital signs bring traffic‑safety considerations and referred any such proposal to engineering review and a future agenda if submitted.
