Elkhart County Council approves transfer of Concord Township assessor duties to county assessor

The Elkhart County Council on April 16 adopted a resolution transferring the duties of the Concord Township Assessor to the Elkhart County Assessor under state law after local officials requested the transfer.
County Attorney Steve Olson said the transfer follows the resignation of the Concord Township Assessor on Dec. 15, 2025, a subsequent caucus that did not fill the vacancy and written recommendations from the Concord Township trustee and board approving the transfer on March 23, 2026. Olson cited Senate Enrolled Act No. 270 as the enabling statute and noted the township board adopted a formal resolution (Resolution 2026‑06) supporting the transfer.
The council voted to approve resolution CC 2026‑09 unanimously. Olson told the council the county assessor has already been performing assessment duties during the vacancy period and that the resolution formalizes that arrangement.
