During the meeting the board recognized several first responders and partners for a Feb. 18 rescue at Hope Mills Lake that extracted a driver from a partially submerged vehicle and transported the person to medical care. The mayor presented life‑saving awards and certificates to members of the Hope Mills police and fire departments, Fort Bragg water rescue and recovery, Cotton Fire Department, Phillips Towing and EMS providers.
The board also held promotions and swearing-in ceremonies. Police promotions included the promotion of Ashley Roehweater to lieutenant and Enrique Medina to sergeant; multiple new officers were sworn in with family present. Fire Department promotions were also recognized.
Why it matters: The recognitions acknowledge cross‑agency coordination in an on‑water rescue and highlight personnel changes in public-safety departments that affect staffing and operational readiness.
