Parks staff to request final extension of Ecker's Lawn Service contract; RFP to follow next year
Summary
Staff said Ecker's Lawn Service has one final optional extension on the current mowing contract and that the department will ask council to approve a final extension to run through 06/30/2027; after that, staff plans to issue an RFP for mowing services in early 2027.

Staff told the board that the town's mowing contractor, Ecker's Lawn Service, has an existing agreement covering 2022–2025 with optional extensions. "We have 2 years that we can extend it," the staff member said, and noted the board extended the contract previously; staff recommended requesting counsel and council approval to use the final extension. If council approves, the contract would run through June 30, 2027, after which the town plans to solicit new bids via RFP (staff suggested an RFP issuance in February or March following the contract end).
Board members said Ecker's has been doing a decent job and that market conditions make extending at current rates reasonable, given rising fuel and labor costs. Staff noted the contract expansion will add mowing responsibilities for nearly 22 additional acres and that bidders should account for the larger acreage when the town goes to bid after the final extension.
No formal vote was recorded on the extension at this meeting; staff said they would request placement of the extension on the council agenda.
