Cherokee County TDA approves marketing ads and community grants, funds half of inclusive play area

The Cherokee County Tourism Development Authority voted unanimously Sept. 8 to approve several advertising purchases and community grants, including partial funding for a new inclusive play area at Konehete Veterans Park.
Board member Steve Dickey moved to approve the Travel Taste and Tour Winter/Spring advertisement (Option 3) at a cost of $2,750; the motion was seconded by board member Mike Shiedy and approved unanimously by the five members present. Cal Stiles moved to purchase a half-page (right-side) ad with Blue Ridge Craft Trails for $830; Hank Parker Jr. seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The board also approved a $3,000 payment to the Andrews Garden Club for a tree beautification project after a motion by Cal Stiles and a second from Hank Parker Jr.
On a separate motion, Hank Parker Jr. moved to approve $24,877.50 — recorded in the minutes as half of the requested amount — to support an Inclusive Play Area for children ages 2–5 at Konehete Veterans Park, a request submitted on behalf of Cherokee County Community Connections. Cal Stiles seconded; the board approved the payment unanimously.
The meeting was called to order by Joan Posey at 4:00 p.m. at the Murphy Visitor Center. The agenda and multiple sets of minutes (including an amended August set and minutes from July 14) were approved by unanimous votes earlier in the session.
