The Inglewood Unified School District board reported on closed‑session personnel actions at its March 5, 2025 meeting that will lead to formal notices to certificated staff and then approved related human‑resources agenda items.
Doctor James Morris, presiding at the meeting, reported that the county administrator directed issuance of notices under Education Code section 44951 identifying certificated administrative positions (listed by number in closed session) that “may be released from their administrative assignments effective at the end of the 2024–25 school year and reassigned for the 2025–26 school year,” and directed staff to send appropriate legal notices.
Dr. Brian Coffey, assistant superintendent of human resources, summarized the statutory timeline the district must follow. “The state of California requires school districts that are considering any possibility of discontinuance or reduction in hours for any positions. The individuals or the employees must be notified by March 15,” Coffey said. He explained a bumping analysis occurs between March 15 and May 15 to identify which individuals occupy affected positions, and that the list of positions does not necessarily mean there is a person attached to each listed position.
Coffey also said the process is finalized in May and that the district aims to mitigate the number of employees affected. The board recorded that, in closed session, the administrator also took action under Education Code 44929.21(b) to issue a non‑reelect notice for probationary certificated employees identified as employee numbers 001 and 002 effective at the end of the 02/24/25 school year, and took action under Education Code section 44954 to release temporary certificated employees identified as 111, 112 and 113 at the end of the 2024–25 school year. The presiding officer also reported that two claims (numbers 2512953 and 2413044) were rejected in closed session.
After Coffey’s explanation, the board had no questions about the March 15 notice letters and the board approved agenda items listed as 8a1 through 8a3. The minutes of the Feb. 19 meeting were also approved.
During public comment earlier in the meeting, community member John Hughes urged the board to share the number of affected positions “as soon as possible” to reduce anxiety among teachers while the district completes the statutory process. The board set its next meeting for March 12, 2025, and the assistant superintendent of human resources or designee was directed to send required legal notices.
