Neighbors urge board to halt Virginia Sports Park gun‑range plans near Walton Road

Several residents from the Walton Road corridor told the board Jan. 6 they oppose a conditional-use application by Virginia Sports Park (VSP) to establish public shooting stations near family homes.
Dan Dalton described proximity of homes to the proposed range and asked the Planning Commission and board to defer action until VSP provides a revised traffic impact analysis that includes the 3 Chop Road/Broad Street intersection and a formal sound study. Dalton said the developer’s informal dBA measurements were not sufficiently documented, and he questioned claims that the nonprofit range would bring substantial economic benefit.
Other neighbors echoed concerns about noise (including day‑time and tournament impacts), lead contamination, increased traffic at already hazardous intersections, and reduced property values. One neighbor described planning to build additional homes on his parcel and said the proposal could make those properties unlivable.
Adnan Hamidi, identified as VSP’s director, spoke later to thank local first responders for their work and did not directly rebut the neighborhood’s technical requests at the meeting. Board members did not take action at the Jan. 6 meeting; written public comments and requests for additional studies were entered into the record and will inform subsequent Planning Commission and board consideration of any formal application.
