The Village of Maywood on Sept. 18, 2018 approved an ordinance amending the number of Class “M” (video gaming café/bistro) liquor licenses to allow Lucky Bernie's Maywood LLC (d/b/a Lucky Bernie's, 614 S. 5th Avenue) to receive a license.
Mayor Edwenna Perkins presided as trustees debated whether to place a numerical cap on Class “M” licenses after a prior Liquor License Control Committee discussion. Earlier in the meeting the board voted to continue deciding Class “M” licenses on a case‑by‑case basis rather than adopt a blanket cap; that motion passed with Trustee I. Brandon voting no. Later, under new business (Ordinance amending number of Class “M” licenses), the board approved the specific ordinance for Lucky Bernie's; the ordinance passed with the same lone no vote from Trustee Brandon.
The board did not provide additional license‑limit language at the meeting; the ordinance action was limited to amending the number of licenses to accommodate Lucky Bernie's. The approval permits Lucky Bernie's to proceed with licensing steps required under village code. The meeting minutes show the vote as: Ayes — Mayor Perkins; Trustees H. Yarbrough, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and M. Lightford; Nay — Trustee I. Brandon; absent — Trustee R. Rivers.
No new conditions on Class “M” licensure were adopted at the Sept. 18 meeting. The board adjourned at 10:44 p.m.
