Utilities report: underground electric work, deep well drilling and IPTV transition outlined

Joe Ruchenberg, speaking for utilities, reported several infrastructure updates and customer-service changes to council May 20.
Ruchenberg said crews are continuing underground-electric work around the square and on Durant Street, with vault access and service connections a focus. For a planned deep well, contractors placed a 40-foot surface casing to isolate the upper formation before drilling to a deeper production zone; he said crews expected to resume drilling after the Memorial Day weekend.
Ruchenberg also described a recent truck accident that damaged chain-link fencing and parking at the old light-plant facility; the city is collecting repair estimates to submit to insurance. He said an old transformer will likely be sold or transferred to the town of Kimberly.
On customer service, utilities are preparing to convert pay-TV customers to a new IPTV streaming platform by year-end and will hold open houses in June to assist residents with the transition. Customers may need a Fire TV/Fire Stick or similar streaming device; staff said those devices are a one-time purchase and packages may result in long-term savings for some customers.
Ruchenberg encouraged residents to attend open houses for help switching to the new service.
