Greeley County commissioners elect Leo F. Reilly chairman, approve 2015 appointments and policies

On Jan. 13, 2015 the Greeley County Board of Commissioners met in open session and elected Leo F. Reilly chairman for 2015 and Michael Goldfish vice-chair. The nominations were moved and seconded on the floor; roll call votes were recorded with Goldfish and Wrede voting yes for Reilly and Reilly abstaining on his own nomination, and Wrede and Reilly voting yes for Goldfish with Goldfish abstaining on his own nomination.

The board, chaired by Reilly, approved the county meeting schedule for 2015 (second and last Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.), designated the Greeley Citizen as the official county newspaper, and agreed that existing commissioner assignments to external boards would continue for the year. County Clerk Mindy A. Grossart presided as acting chair for the organizational motions and recorded roll call votes.

The board made a slate of personnel appointments for 2015: Jim Beck was appointed County Superintendent; Don Roy was appointed Highway Superintendent and Emergency Manager; Walter Bjorklund was appointed Weed Superintendent; Franz Trumler was named Planning & Zoning Administrator (to receive a $25 monthly phone reimbursement); and John Michael Sweeney was appointed Veteran Service Officer to work two four-hour days per week. The appointments were adopted by motion and roll call vote, recorded as "all yes" where noted.

The board approved administrative policies including the county mileage reimbursement rate at 57.5¢ per mile effective Jan. 1, 2015 (per Neb. Rev. Stat. §81-1176), set county funeral burial allowances at $1,400 for casket burial and $900 for cremation, and approved salary and hourly employee increases as previously set by resolution. Payroll and vendor claims were reviewed and approved at the meeting.
