The Brainerd City Council voted April 14 to accept the resignation of city engineer Jesse Dean, whose resignation was submitted April 8 with a last working day of May 8, 2026.
Britney Comet read the resignation notice to the council. Councilman Chesak moved to accept the resignation "with regret," and Councilman Johnson seconded the motion. The council voted by voice and the motion carried.
Council members thanked Dean for his professionalism and the one-month notice and discussed next steps for covering engineering work through the summer. Staff said recruitment postings will begin as soon as the administrative requisition is prepared and that staff would consider engaging consultant engineers to provide program-management support if timelines required it.
What happens next: the city will post the position and move forward with recruitment; staff said they plan to discuss possible consultant support at the council's next regular meeting if needed to maintain construction-season work flows.
