Board approves surplus declaration, authorizes advertising sale of 2017 Quint fire apparatus

The Board of Works approved a resolution declaring specified fire department items surplus and authorized bid documents to advertise the sale of a 2017 Quint apparatus with a $600,000 opening bid.
Fire Chief Rodney Dale told the board the department will replace the Quint with a tiller ladder truck and that the 2017 Quint has been moved among stations and is currently stored at Station 3. Dale said the Quint is a combination ladder/engine apparatus (75-foot ladder) that no longer fits the department’s strategic needs. He described a plan to move existing ladder and backup apparatus across stations when the new tiller arrives.
The board approved the surplus resolution and the advertisement for bids by voice vote. Staff said the sale is the first step in a multistep disposition process: the mayor must first determine the parcel or item is not needed, the board holds a public hearing and the city may then offer the asset for sale. The board asked the chief to confirm storage and logistics; the chief said the apparatus has been moved frequently and will be listed in the bid documents.
