Council approves E-470 partnership to advance Parker Road ramp project

The Parker Town Council voted unanimously on Nov. 3 to approve an intergovernmental agreement with the E-470 Public Highway Authority to advance the long-studied Parker Road ramp project.
Public-works staff described the proposal as a multi-year, phased effort to provide an off-ramp connection and operational improvements between E-470 and southbound 20 Mile Road. Staff said E-470 has tentatively appropriated $2 million in construction funds, roughly half of the estimated cost identified in current planning, and that the town will manage the design, bid and construction process with E-470 review rights on the award.
Council members discussed potential impacts on adjacent residences and businesses, outreach steps (open houses and contacting condo and business owners) and safety benefits by giving drivers alternate routes to reduce weaving across Parker Road. Staff said maintenance agreements and final funding obligations will be addressed in later, related IGAs as design advances and that E-470's funding commitment will be returned if the town does not award a construction contract by Dec. 31, 2030.
Council approved the ordinance authorizing the IGA on second reading without roll-call dissent.
