The Parker Town Council unanimously approved a site-plan amendment on Nov. 3 to allow the Parker Water and Sanitation District to build a 2,633-square-foot filtration annex adjacent to the existing well house at Riata North Tract T.
Stacey Nurger, the town planner on the item, said the proposed annex is in compliance with setbacks and design standards and was recommended for approval by staff and the planning commission. A technical presenter for Parker Water and an engineer from Tetra Tech explained the filtration approach: the added mechanical filters will physically remove iron and manganese from groundwater sources that, under some hydraulic conditions, precipitate and produce red/orange/black colored water in the distribution system.
A Parker Water representative said the Riata North well contributes an estimated 125 pounds of iron annually to the distribution system and that the filtration cell will remove that contribution, along with about three pounds of manganese. The presenters said the annex is passive in operation and should not produce new noise for adjacent park users or residents; underground piping will link the annex to the existing well house. No public commenters spoke on the item.
Council moved to approve the site-plan amendment subject to the conditions recommended by the planning commission; the motion passed unanimously.
