Preston County Board approves MOU to continue school resource officer at Preston High School

The Preston County Board of Education voted unanimously on Aug. 25 to approve a memorandum of understanding among the school district, the Preston County Commission and the Preston County Sheriff’s Department to provide a school resource officer (SRO) at Preston High School for the 2025–26 academic year.
Superintendent Martin described the MOU as a continuation of the district’s long-standing arrangement with the commission and the sheriff’s department, saying there were “limited to no changes to the document” and that he would forward the signed agreement to the commission for their consideration. "This is just a continuation of the agreement that we’ve had since the 2019–20 academic year," Martin said.
Board members reviewed the draft and asked about minor updates — including the current list of covered schools — and Martin said he would make a small verbiage change before forwarding the agreement.
On the voice vote, remote board member Mister Ziggray and the members present voted yes and the chair announced the motion passed 5-0. No additional conditions or changes were appended at the meeting.
