Indian River school board approves rulemaking to advance district's innovation and efficiency plan

The Indian River County School Board voted 5-0 on Dec. 17 to approve rulemaking under Chapter 120 of the Florida Statutes to implement the district's operational innovation and efficiency planning initiative, advancing proposed boundary changes, campus consolidations and facility repurposing.

The vote authorizes staff to begin the formal rulemaking process and next steps required for rezoning and boundary determinations, Superintendent Dr. Moore told the board during a public hearing. "We're responding to doing more with less to maximize the service and the resources that we can provide to our children," Dr. Moore said, adding the recommended changes grew from 22 documented meetings, town halls and site-level discussions with staff and parents.

Why it matters: Board members said the plan is intended to preserve educational quality while reducing recurring costs and improving access to programs.
